A basic FHN commitment is "Respect, Dignity and Compassion." The Diversity Council is a logical outgrowth that supports this commitment. The council focuses on ways we can cultivate a climate that fosters mutual respect as it relates to appreciating diversity among coworkers, physicians, patients, visitors and vendors.
The Diversity Council implemented a program titled "Understanding and Appreciating Differences." The goals of this program are to:
- Help each participant recognize that people have different personality preferences, but that each person brings unique strengths to the workplace
- Help each participant feel the need to value and capitalize on people's differences, rather than have conflict over them
"Understanding and Appreciating Differences" is taught to all staff and also taught at each new staff orientation.
