FHN Pretzel City Festival Super-Sizing Summer Fun
The Pretzel City Festival is spreading out the fun this year, beginning June 11 with a series of free Movies in the Park at different Freeport parks.
"We wanted to stretch out the fun in two ways time and space," said organizer Zac Smit. "So we are going to feature three movies shown on huge 30-foot outdoor screens at three different Freeport parks over three Saturdays! Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, and have a family movie night under the stars."
Movies in the Park
Join us Saturday, June 11 for a showing of Madagascar (PG) at dusk in Freeport's Taylor Park. Get there early, because there will be entertainment before the show!
The next Saturday, June 18, we'll be at Read Park in Freeport for a showing of the classic E.T. (PG). Before the movie, we'll feature a tumbling exhibition from Pierce Athletics and the music of Dave Rudolph's Beach Party.
A Full Day of Fun
We've got a whole day full of fun scheduled for Saturday, June 25 at Freeport's beautiful Krape Park. We'll hit the ground running early Saturday morning with the 9th annual Pretzel 5K Run/Walk and the Kids Triathlon/Duathlon.
Registration for the Pretzel 5K, including a t-shirt, through June 15 is $20; $10 for high school age and under youth. After June 16, registration is $25 for everyone.
Registration for the Kids' Triathlon/Duathlon is $20 for an individual and $30 for a team before June 18; $25 for an individual and $35 for a team after June 18. For more information or to register, call the Family YMCA of Northwest Illinois at 815-235-9622.
If tennis is your game, sign up for the tennis tournament beginning at 9 a.m. at the Read Park tennis courts.
Through the late morning and afternoon, enjoy wood arts and crafts, art activities for kids, food and craft vendors, barrel train rides, a strolling accordion player, flush tank, family games, pony rides, A Zoo to You petting zoo, a bounce house, and a health information fair. State Bank of Freeport is sponsoring free rides on Krape Park's carousel from noon to 9 p.m.
From 1 - 4 p.m., you've got some choices to make Discover Paddling at the boat rental docks, watch the Dan Barth Medicine shows, or participate (or watch) the Children's Tractor Race, Teen Tricycle Race and Children's Tractor Pull competitions.
