FHN Names Community Festival of Trees Winners
A tree celebrating Dr. Suess from Liberty Village of Freeport and The Glittering Snowflakes from Open Bible Learning Center captured this year's top spots and a $500 donation for each organization in the FHN Community Festival of Trees.
Dr. Suess' Magical Christmas Land was named the judges' top choice of the year, and the Open Bible tree garnered 690 votes to win the People's Choice top prize. All of the trees remain on display at the Freeport Public Library through Saturday, Dec. 31. Prize winners both the panel of judges' choices and the People's Choice winners will be marked with a sign.
This year's Community Festival of Trees drew 21 entries, and a total of 1,282 People's Choice ballots were cast from December 4 17.
The judges chose Hands Helping You Heal by the CareerTec/HOYA as their second-place winner. The group will receive a $300 check. Find Time to Admire and Appreciate the Glittering Lights on Snowflakes Debasch Mridha, MD from the Lincoln-Douglas Elementary Fourth Grade earned a $200 second-place check as the People's Choice second-place winner, with 104 votes.
Open Bible Learning Center nabbed the judges' third prize and a $150 check for its tree The Glittering Snowflakes. The creators of the People's Choice third-place winner, the Pecatonica Elementary 4th grade students, will receive a check for $100 for their tree Snow Day!, which garnered 63 votes in the People's Choice competition.
