Learn How to Preserve Your Family Heirlooms

Learn from an expert how to properly care for and preserve family heirlooms April 5 as part of the month-long Strong Women, Strong Communities celebration.

Executive Director of the Stephenson County Historical Museum Sharon Welton will talk about what causes damage to heirlooms including textiles, books, papers, photographs, and other objects, and ways to store and display artifacts safely. A question-and-answer time will be included, and participants are invited and encouraged to bring an item or two to the presentation for discussion.

This free program will be held from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 at the Freeport Public Library, 100 E. Douglas Street in Freeport. No registration is required to attend.

Strong Women, Strong Communitie is a month-long celebration of local women and home arts sponsored by FHN, the Freeport Art Museum, University of Illinois Extension, Freeport Public Library, and the Stephenson County Historical Society. These events have been inspired by the painting Home Defense by Freeport artist Florence Furst, which is a work in the permanent collection at the Freeport Art Museum. It is also part of a traveling exhibit organized by the Peoria Riverfront Museum called Making Their Mark – Illinois Women Artists 1940-1960, sponsored by FHN and being exhibited at the Freeport Art Museum through May 7.
