First place awards are $500; the judges' second place receives $300 (People's Choice second place will receive $200) and the judges' third place choice will receive $150 (People's Choice third place will receive $100).
Organizations have treated the public to many unique and beautiful trees in the past, including last year's winners Illinois Pride... County Wide from Lincoln Douglas Elementary School, the People's Choice Award winner; Jingle All the Way to Several Counties in a Day Picking Up Friends in Our Homemade Sleigh We All Participate in a Holiday Play from Willow Glen Academy of Illinois, the judges' first-place winner; Jingle All The Way to the Finish from the YMCA Bluefins, the People's Choice second place winner; Making Spirits Bright by Happy Hatters (Red Hat Club), the judges' second place winner and The Jingle of Dog Tags Bring Warm Cheer! from Therapy Dogs International-Freeport, the judges' third-place winner. Jingle All the Way to Recovery from Sojourn House received the People's Choice third place award.
FHN will furnish the trees for the event, which will be displayed throughout the library from Sunday Dec. 2 through Friday, Dec. 28. All trees will be approximately six feet tall and will be available for decoration on Monday, Nov. 26 from 3 to 7 p.m. or Saturday, Dec. 1 from noon to 4 p.m.
Entries will be accepted from schools, churches, service organizations, clubs and other officially organized not-for-profit groups; people may not enter as individuals. Judging for the prizes other than People's Choice will be done by a panel of local judges.
