FHN, as part of its mission to improve the health of our communities by working with the best in healthcare providers, has awarded five area students scholarships to help cover the cost of healthcare education.
“We had an exceptional group of applicants this year,” said Michael Perry, M.D., president and CEO of FHN. “While that makes our choice more difficult, it makes us glad to see so many excellent students pursuing careers in healthcare.”
The 2008 scholarship winners are:
Erin Eilders of Lena, who is working toward a degree in radiation therapy at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville.
Jessica Johnson of Freeport, who is studying speech and language pathology at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
Jennifer Lavoie of DeKalb, who is pursing a nursing degree at Kishwaukee College in Malta, Ill.
Kristin Obert of Orangeville, who is working toward a degree in physical therapy and athletic training at Clarke College in Dubuque.
Joel Schrock of Freeport, who is attending Luther College in Decorah, Iowa in pursuit of a degree in physical therapy.
Candidates wrote an essay on the career opportunities available in healthcare, their particular area of interest and why they chose that career path. The winners each will receive $1,000 to help cover educational expenses for the winter 2008 term.
